Robert Pattinson is officially stepping back into Gotham City’s shadows. The actor has confirmed that preparations for The Batman Part II, the highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 superhero hit, are about to begin, signaling that the long-awaited follow-up is finally gaining momentum.
During recent promotional appearances, Pattinson revealed that he will soon start preparing for filming, praising the screenplay and raising expectations among fans eager for the next chapter of his darker interpretation of Bruce Wayne. The actor described the new script as “so, so good,” adding that production work would begin shortly after completing his current press commitments.
Filming Set to Begin in 2026
Warner Bros. Discovery previously confirmed that The Batman Part II is scheduled to begin filming in spring 2026, marking a major step forward after multiple delays tied to script development and industry strikes.
Director Matt Reeves, who returns to helm the sequel, co-wrote the screenplay alongside Mattson Tomlin. The project entered pre-production after the script was finalized in 2025, allowing the creative team to move ahead with casting, design work, and location planning.
Principal photography is expected to take place primarily in the United Kingdom, including Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and locations such as Liverpool and Glasgow, continuing the grounded visual style established in the first film.
Released in 2022, The Batman introduced Pattinson as a younger, more detective-focused version of the iconic hero, earning critical praise for its noir tone and psychological depth. The film’s success quickly positioned a sequel as one of DC’s most anticipated projects.
Unlike other upcoming DC titles connected to the broader cinematic universe, Reeves’ Batman saga remains part of the “Elseworlds” label — standalone stories that exist outside the main DC continuity.
The sequel is expected to continue exploring Gotham City following the catastrophic flooding caused by the Riddler in the first film, with Reeves reportedly aiming to deepen the detective elements while further developing Bruce Wayne’s personal identity.
While full plot details remain under wraps, several key characters are expected to return. Colin Farrell is set to reprise his role as Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, following the character’s expanded storyline in HBO’s spin-off series The Penguin.
Barry Keoghan is also anticipated to reappear as the Joker after his brief but memorable introduction in the first installment, though Warner Bros. has not officially confirmed the sequel’s primary antagonist.
Reeves has hinted that the new villain will explore territory rarely seen in previous live-action Batman films, suggesting a fresh narrative direction for the franchise.
The Batman Part II is currently scheduled for theatrical release on October 1, 2027, giving the production team ample time to craft another ambitious installment in Reeves’ grounded Gotham universe.
