Oreo has built a reputation for pushing the boundaries of flavor innovation, but its latest collaboration with KFC may be its boldest experiment to date. The two iconic brands have teamed up in China to launch a limited-edition Oreo featuring a crème inspired by KFC’s famous Original Recipe fried chicken seasoning, delivering an unexpected blend of sweet and savory flavors.
The limited-edition cookies replace Oreo’s signature sweet filling with a savory cream infused with the herbs and spices associated with KFC’s legendary recipe. Packaged in KFC’s unmistakable red-and-white branding, the release forms part of Oreo China’s new “Playful Time Travel” collection, which also includes a Retro Popcorn-inspired variety.
The launch debuted in China on July 31 and quickly sparked conversation across social media, where consumers reacted with a mix of curiosity, skepticism, and excitement. The collaboration reflects the growing popularity of novelty food launches that encourage consumers to try unexpected flavor combinations while generating significant online buzz.
Although Oreo has introduced dozens of unconventional flavors over the years—from wasabi and hot chicken wing varieties in Asia to Coca-Cola, Post Malone, and Selena Gomez collaborations—this fried chicken-inspired edition stands out as one of the brand’s most daring creations to date.
At the moment, the Oreo x KFC cookies are available exclusively in China, with no official announcement regarding expansion into international markets. However, reports in Latin America have fueled speculation about a possible future arrival in countries such as Mexico, where both Oreo and KFC enjoy strong consumer recognition.
