IKEA Canada Turns Everyday Products Into World Cup Flags in Creative Commerce Campaign

As soccer fever sweeps across North America during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, IKEA Canada has found a playful way to celebrate the tournament while showcasing its vast product range. The retailer has launched “Bring the World to Life,” a campaign that transforms everyday IKEA items into national flags, inviting fans to express their heritage and support for their favorite teams through home furnishings.

Created by Dentsu Creative, the initiative reimagines flags from participating nations using IKEA products ranging from furniture and lighting to textiles, décor accessories and even plush toys. Each composition is fully shoppable, allowing consumers to recreate the flag-inspired designs in their own homes. According to the campaign, a total of 18 national flags have been assembled using dozens of IKEA products and are being featured across digital channels and out-of-home placements near IKEA stores throughout Canada.

The campaign arrives at a moment when Canada’s multicultural identity is particularly visible. With the World Cup drawing support from communities representing nations from every continent, IKEA Canada positioned the effort as a celebration of the diverse backgrounds that make up the country. Jacqueline Wark, Marketing Communications Manager at IKEA Canada, said the company wanted to give customers “a special way to express their fandom and pride for home,” regardless of where they come from.

For IKEA, the initiative also extends its broader “Bring Home to Life” brand platform, introduced in Canada in 2022 to highlight the emotional role that homes play in people’s lives rather than focusing solely on products. The World Cup activation adapts that idea for an international sporting audience by shifting the concept toward “Bring the World to Life,” connecting personal identity, culture and home environments through design.

Scott Tavener, Executive Creative Director at Dentsu Creative, described the work as a creative-commerce experience that transforms household products into symbols of national pride during one of the world’s most watched sporting events. Beyond traditional advertising, the campaign encourages consumers to interact with the designs by sharing them online, purchasing featured items or recreating the flags themselves.

The initiative reflects a growing trend in brand marketing, where commerce and creativity increasingly overlap. Rather than producing conventional World Cup-themed merchandise, IKEA uses existing inventory to generate cultural relevance while reinforcing product discovery. Every flag doubles as a catalog of purchasable items, turning fan engagement into a retail experience.

“Bring the World to Life” will run throughout the summer across social media, IKEA-owned platforms and outdoor advertising, demonstrating how global sporting events continue to inspire brands to create culturally resonant experiences that extend far beyond the game itself.
