Chinese robotics startup DroidUp has unveiled Moya, a groundbreaking humanoid robot billed as the world’s first fully biomimetic embodied intelligent robot. Moya measures 1.65 meters tall and weighs about 32 kilograms, with body proportions closely mimicking those of an adult human. Powered by embodied AI, Moya can perceive its environment, reason in real time, and act physically in the world, enabling seamless interactions during conversations.

On the social front, Moya excels at non-verbal communication: it maintains sustained eye contact through built-in cameras, nods while “listening,” smiles, displays subtle micro-expressions, and can even perform gestures like winking to imitate human emotions. While it does not yet express complex emotions vocally or through full facial animation, its current focus on micro-gestures and body language creates a surprisingly realistic presence, with some observers describing interactions as both impressive and slightly uncanny.

DroidUp positions Moya primarily for social and service-oriented applications rather than industrial or heavy-duty tasks. Potential uses include companionship in healthcare (assisting patients and providing emotional support), personalized education, retail environments, and office settings where close human-robot interaction is valuable. The robot is not aimed at domestic use but at professional and institutional contexts requiring natural presence and empathy.

Sales are expected to begin by the end of 2026. Pricing estimates vary across reports, but the initial figure cited is around 1.2 million Japanese yen (approximately 6,500 to 8,000 euros, or roughly $7,000 to $9,000 USD, depending on exchange rates), making it more accessible than many high-end humanoid prototypes.

The debut has generated global attention, with videos showing Moya walking, smiling, nodding, and engaging in eye contact circulating widely on social media and tech outlets. While DroidUp claims Moya as the “world’s first” in its fully biomimetic embodied category, the rapid pace of humanoid development in China—alongside competitors in the US and Japan—underscores an intensifying global race to create robots that blur the line between machine and human-like companion.

As robotics advances, Moya highlights the shift from purely functional machines to ones designed for emotional and social realism, raising both excitement about future applications in care and companionship and questions about the psychological impact of increasingly lifelike artificial beings.
